"A few author friends started Authors4Veterans and they have helped make veterans lives better. I had to share this inspiring organization with you, since I love stories of veterans being respected and honored." - Lianna

What is Fisher House?
When a veteran or service member receives care at the VA, the last thing families should have to worry about is how to support their loved one during hospitalization. For many families, the VA Medical Center is hours from home, and it is difficult to predict how long a stay might be. Not only are there financial sacrifices with travel and lodging, there can be mental and emotional burdens as families seek answers and wait for results.
We hope to lessen these burdens so families can focus on helping their loved one heal. The Milwaukee VA Fisher House is conveniently located on the Milwaukee VA Medical Center grounds and offers 16 bedroom suites of varying layouts to accommodate single travelers or larger families at no cost to them. Designed with the interactions of guests in mind, guests experience the feeling of being home with a shared common kitchen, laundry room, dining room, living room, family room and a large patio and yard. Families share meals together and support each other through their joys and sorrows.
There are currently 92 Fisher Houses in the United States and Europe.

What is Authors4Veterans?
Authors4Veterans began with two authors, PJ Fiala and Stacey Joy Netzel, who have children and family members who have served, or are serving, in the military. Learning of Fisher House and their outstanding organization, we wanted to do our part to help out veterans and their families. Stacey is no longer with Authors4Veterans and we are proud to announce the addition of Valerie J. Clarizio to our organization. Valerie also has family members who have served in the military.
Each year we gather 30 fellow authors and ask them to donate books, swag, and comfort items (socks, shampoo, conditioner, puzzle books, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc.). We then stuff beautiful canvas bags with the generously donated items and take them to Fisher House Milwaukee. These bags are then given to family members who stay at Fisher House while their veteran is in the VA hospital. Oftentimes, these families are experiencing an end-of-life period, where their veteran is passing. The books and items donated serve to comfort the family members as they sit with their veteran and also fills in gaps of comfort items they may have forgotten to bring with them on their stay.
Authors4Veterans is a not for profit organization and all monies and donated items given to Fisher House.

Cats Anonymous, Inc.
"Do you love cats? This organization may interest you. Near me, there's a local organization called Cats Anonymous, Inc. located out of Green Bay, Wisconsin. They have been dedicated to helping feral cats. This is a program I donate to each year. They have prevented population booms in feral cats in North Eastern Wisconsin." - Lianna
Empathy and care brought our founders together in 2005 to establish a compassionate and highly effective solution to the growing concern expressed by communities across the region over the wellbeing of feral cats, the overpopulation pressure on shelters, and conflicts in neighborhoods.
By working with a network of veterinarians across the region we’ve built a leading Trap Neuter Vaccinate and Release (TNVR) program, and together we’re successfully curbing the growth of feral cat populations across Northeastern Wisconsin. We actively recruit volunteers to become colony caretakers. They provide in-the-field support for colonies and monitor current populations in their areas.
We work with local governments to make policy changes that embrace and develop humane solutions to address problem populations and to strongly encourage pet owners to become part of the solution by spaying or neutering their pets.
If you are a pet owner you can make a significant impact by accepting the responsibility to spay or neuter your pets. Unsupervised outdoor activity of pets is often the cause of feral population growth due to unknown and unwanted births.
Together we can humanely solve the conflicts communities have with feral cats and reduce the overwhelming intake of unwanted kittens in shelters. Our team of licensed veterinarians, veterinary technicians, volunteers and colony caretakers in the field are already improving the overall health and wellbeing of feral cat populations across Northeastern Wisconsin.
